don’t ask me how i came to name this thing “blogadocious.”

actually, you can ask, because this tale, at least, isn’t embarrassing. (that’s not always the case, in the world of me.)

anyway, i’m (for some reason) obsessed with the word ‘braggadocious’ (which it’s obvious i can’t even spell properly!), and so there you are.

i suppose i should begin with a bit about myself. (despite the fact that i’m actually very against going on about oneself, especially online. sort of like those ridiculous ‘rants’ pages that were popular in the late 90s.

i’m a writer (i have two books out and run a magazine, although no one’s actually read either, as far as i know). i’m a photographer (several of my models have gone on to fame on the runway or on tv, although i’ve shot lots of ‘celebs’ in the acting and political arenas, too.. i wish i could do this full time!). i’m an artist (don’t ask). and i’m a documentary filmmaker.

i’m egyptian, born and raised in the states, but slavering for a chance to live in egypt once again. of course, it would be very difficult, but what isn’t?

i’m a christian (which, together with my nationality, makes me a copt). i try to live my christianity from monday to saturday, as well as sunday. (this does not make me perfect, it only holds me accountable for my sins–and oh, how many of them do i have!–and makes me strive to cut them out of my life. for example.. i’m the shopaholic from hell. but more on that in a sec..)

i’m working on my phd in speech communication, currently, but have taken the semester off to concentrate on my documentaries. (i just finished one on emmett till, ‘back to square one… fifty years after emmett till,’ which is all about how the racism of the 50s is still out there, despite what people may think.)

i teach public speaking and intercultural communication at a certain university in the south. i’ve been teaching since 2003. it’s great fun. and, while public speaking is a lower-level course than intercultural comm, i like teaching it lots better. it’s actually more rewarding, coz you’re teaching them how to fish, as opposed to handing them a basket of salmon.

i am, as i mentioned a while ago, a notorious shopaholic. workaholic, too, now that i think about it, but let’s stick to the shopping bit. last month, when my computer was being slow (i was working on the emmett till thing then), i sprung for a new dell. (it was time to get a new one, though.)
then, when i realised how shoddy the sound was in that documentary, i did some research and threw out another 3500$ for a professional video camera. (i really didn’t have a choice…)

actually, that’s why i’m blathering on right now–i’m waiting for the UPS man to bring me a nice surprise. my new camera! (my documentary is going to ROCK, now. but more on that later…
