New Episodes Of “Sally Bishai’s 30 Minutes With..

January 31, 2006

Hi, quick post (while I’m languishing with a beastly cold) to let everyone know that, in addition to the two documentaries that are (finally) up, CHANNEL X has 4 episodes of Sally Bishai’s 30 Minutes With… online.

They are:

His Grace Bishop Youssef, Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern USA

Michael Meunier, President of US COPTS Association

Nadia Ghaly, Coptic Rights Advocate

Hugh Stephen Whitaker, Author of THE Master’s thesis on Emmett Till

As always, the opinions expressed are the property of the people who said them.

Sally Bishai and X Culture Films are proud to announce the official launch of CHANNEL X, an internet “TV” channel dedicated to online streams of all of our film and television projects.

Eventually, we will have an online store where you can buy the DVD of any films you would like to own.

We will also have a new episode of Sally Bishai’s 30 Minutes With… up every two weeks, God willing, so bookmark the site, and visit CHANNEL X frequently!

Thanks so much to all the support, prayers, friendship, love, and ideas that each of you has provided us over the past year.

I Ain’t No Spokeschick

January 30, 2006

Before I start going on, may I please refer you to the “Kemet” postings below.. just hit ctrl-f and search for the word, which is actually the dear name of the beloved land. Or vice versa.

Anyway, the documentary, Children of Kemet, is finally online in a streaming format.

Right, then. On with the show!

I would like to first thank you all for stopping by here, especially those who end up emailing me or posting comments. All writers love to hear back, even when it’s bad. (Well, sometimes when it’s bad..)

At any rate, what prompted me to this posting right now is:

1- the fact that it’s 3:12 A.M. and I’m too tired to sleep (let’s see how long that lasts..)

2- I needed to get a mention of the documentary to the top of this page,

and, most importantly..

3- the fact that I’ve gotten a great quantity of, let’s call it.. “fan mail” in the past few days.

Now, normally, I would not be going on about this indicator that people (other than my mummy) are actually reading this thing.

But.

Unfortunately, I’ve had more than a few (OK, like a dozen) emails trying to get me in some private philosophical debate about why I’m a Christian, why U.S. Copts Association is better than/not as good as some other organisation, why Christianity is for losers, etc.

Normally, I wouldn’t let it get to me. Normally, I’d take it with a grain of salt; after all, haven’t I been writing books on our culture (Egyptian and “Arab,” not Coptic, per se) for years? Haven’t I been getting a steady stream of mail, some positive, some “Uh, what were you thinking, Sally??”..

But now, it seems as though my articles are getting people a bit hot under the collar, and I don’t mean it in a naughty way, either.

Hence, I’d like to make some announcements..

1- I always only speak for ME.

2- I have been described as an IDEALIST and a DREAMER, and there’s nothing wrong with that!

3- While I may not agree with every religion out there (I actually believe that you have to be down with JC if you want to see heaven, and that He is the only way), I would never want people to hate their neighbours just because of religious, racial, or whatever differences!

4- I would like people to take my writings and work and TV shows and documentaries and books and magazines AT FACE VALUE. Yes, there are some deep points in them sometimes, BUT my primary motivation isn’t to stir up trouble, as in the Egyptian politics ones, the Armanious family one, the Odaysat riot ones, etc.

Rather, I want people to say, “Ok, we’re different, we may never agree, but that doesn’t mean we’ve gotta hate each other!”

This mentality may be too tolerant for some, but the truth is that if we only talked to people who believed the same thing that we did, we’d be members of a cult.

At any rate, want to thank you for having read this far–especially since I seem to be doing what we in Arabic have described as “kharraffing.”

Scroll down for more fun stuff, or hit Channel X to have a look at the Emmett Till documentary I just finished, “BACK TO SQUARE ONE? FIFTY YEARS AFTER EMMETT TILL.” Also in streaming format.

Anyway, may God be with each of you, lots of love to all, and hope this made sense!
